REALITY ENDS AROUND THE NEXT CORNER is by no means adequately described as an »exceptionally beautiful« book, even though its author Florian Arnold is also a literary organizer, fellow publisher and designer. That his »reality« is a book designed down to the last detail, which also lives from the close connection with the typography and its illustrations, is one thing. The other is that it can and does do something that has become extremely rare: fable!
What else could lead to the accomplishment of one of the most fantastic projects of modern and ancient times, of the present and of the future II: to deliver the »true account of the creation and destruction of the only lexicon for the elimination of modern perplexity, put into words in an unadorned way«, which is already described in the fabulous subtitle. – Nothing less is at stake here.
Things turned out differently. The title, like the book as a whole, has gotten longer. And it is clear that this is not a book for just any readers. Here you have to be a hardcore crime fiction lover, at the same time adore the historical novel as your favorite delicacy, look for the social novel of the century, be as desperately in need of the most intense love story as a way of life as you are of a neatly bound large and universal encyclopedia, and above all give travel literature preference over any TV dish at any time. Whoever still appreciates the spiritual blessings of the contemporary fairy tale and considers it an advantage of literature that it can entertain and educate at the same time by always letting another spellbinding figure jump around the corner of the book's page, oh my goodness: he and she is in the best of hands on these 224 dazzling pages. – Who did it? Florian Arnold did!
Built up in sub-encyclopedias on the big questions and problems that afflict us every day, Florian Arnold thus also gives us a guidebook at the same time.

For over 20 years, painter Gerda Raichle has been searching for and finding the motifs for her paintings, which are characterized by light and shadow, in southern Europe. »Photorealism« is a weak label for her light-hard, fantasy-dense paintings.
Author Florian L. Arnold wrote the texts for »Gioco delle Ombre« (Shadow Games) to and from paintings by Gerda Raichle. He accompanied her paintings with texts in our little volume, which results in four joint journeys into real and imagined southern (dream) landscapes: four shadow plays at the same time – as the title reads in translation – that remind us not only of the warmth and hospitality of the south, but also of the happiness of remembering and the preciousness that a memory can mean.
