Giulio Einaudi was born in Dogliani on the second of January 1912 and died in Magliano Sabine on the fifth of April 1999)

Giulio Einaudi has run for over fifty years one of the most important literaturer publishing houses in Italy. Authors like Leone and Natalia Ginzburg, Cesare Pavese and Italo Calvino would not have been imaginable without the Enaudi publishing house, their works unthinkable withouth the astonishment creating atmosphere around Giulio Einaudi editore.

Everything, which is now picked out of the central themes of culture scepticism, is envisaged by Einaudi – in retrospect as well as in foresight:

»The biggest challenge of the culturally demanding publishing for the next twenty years seems to be over all the retrievement of a certain »Happiness of the human«. – Maybe the biggest deficit of a culturally ambitious publishing house, which needs an atmosphere thathas to be essentially buisness-like – if not bureaucratic –, the absence of this happiness. This is my impression; it maye be a wrong one, but what else could be the reason for this much agitation and disstatisfaction?«
