Recently, Konstantinos Kavafis has become familiar to us in lovely editions with translations of his poetry. However, the person Kavafis has kept distance, similiar to his lyrics’ undertone.

At this point, the poet Kavafis creates short prose works of the ancestral halls of his family who was composed of intellectuals, physicians and, above all, merchants, who were scattered across whole Europe and formed a trade network around the Aegean and the Mediterranean Sea. – Thus, an insight into the poet's family is given. Simultaneously, he opens a maverick little cultural history.
