Martin Westenberg
Martin Westenberg studied German studies, art education and sociology. During the course of his studies he jobbed as a roadie, film projectionist and taxi driver. For many years now he works as a project manager in the film industry and lives in Frankfurt am Main. 2018 he released the lyric volume »Anmerkungen zum Sonnenstand« (engl. »Notes on the Position of the Sun«), and 2019 the volume »Mein Vater war Schwimmer« followed. For more information you may visit his website www.martinwestenberger.com.
Ralf-Rainer Rygulla about Martin Westenbergers works: Martin Westenbergers poems are skeletonized narratives, which leave the reader with one schocked and one grinning eye baffled behind. Once you start laughing, you become insecure, if laughing is an appropriate reaction.

We are with Martin Westenberger
under the workbench, directly behind the dunes, next to the usual, in the sun, during the break, at the monolith, at the Niedermooser lakes, on the square, outside, in the building, on the floor with the toys, in the technical town hall, also beautiful on the outside, at the Christmas market, on a corner, finely attuned to each other, in secret, at home, in high-heeled ankle boots, in front of empty chairs,
and are also in his third poetry collection
just tourists, the global community, a friend from years ago, cheese sprinkles in shiny, senior citizen on an electric bike, ground meat, tennis buddies at the Tchibo regulars’ table, sales representative for stuffed animals, »Sterbefritz«, the aliens, leftovers, a small faction, the Terminator, mops, old carpets, mats, torso figures,
so still in the thick of life!

In his second volume of poetry after »das mega-festival« (the mega festival), Martin Westenberger once again strikes a narrative tone, but these poems are even sharper in their view of everyday scenes of transience and the continued disregard for existential depths and abysses. Is he also gentler with his »characters«, who always refer to us?
Once again, the cover photo is by Rainer Servos (1962-2017), and once again, the volume is divided into three sections: the young stroke the new devices, the adults stroke the running machines, and the elderly stroke the end devices.
beim streicheln der endgeräte
ein blauer himmel mit zarten wolken,
ein beruhigender see mit steg,
auf dem display
ruhe u. klarheit,
etwas murmelt u. möchte befreit werden
vom wischen, tippen, tasten
möchte raus
aus der kleinen bilddiagonale
hin zum erhabenen.
fast unsichtbar,
mit beständigem versuch
von einflüsterung u. wiederholung,
geschützt hinter glas u. panzerfolie
die alte militärtechnologie,
hast du eben gedacht,
habe ich nicht,
hast du doch.
eine wiese voller blumen,
mit vielen menschen darauf,
alle mit ihren geräten,
hast du eben gedacht,
habe ich nicht,
hast du doch.
im halbschlaf tanzt
der kobold strom
bis zur erschöpfung des akkus.
