André Gide has with written his »Prométhée mal enchainé « long before his nobelprize in 1899, Franz Blei, who was already at that time translating famous authors of the »big literary bestiary«, translated the surreal-mystic narrations 1905/06 as a friendly turn – with resulted in literary fireworks. When the painter Pierre Bonnard, then just slowly gaining fame, contributed 6 wonderful lithographs to the adorable narrations, the legendary editor Hans von Weber published a tiny run in 1909 of Franz Bleis translation. This run unfortunately vanished quite soon and with it the well done translation by Franz Blei, but also the illustrations – and still more: Gide had originally added 33 thesis to the narration, which he had compiled out of his journals since 1896 and in this combination and with the narration of Prometheus it made up a kind of early surrealistic manifest. It deals with the »Acte graduit«,the meaningless, the free, »the autochthonous dead« ... This bod appendix disappeard, it was picked to pieces and rearranged into the diaries of Gide. »At this opportunity of an anecdote« would have been what Blei would make André Gide’s Prometheus say: In 1988 I nearly succeeded in inspiring Renate Gerhardt with her, in the sixties, great Gerhardt-Verlag (in its get up of a book by Braun-Designer Dieter Rams and the wonderful amican modern poets of the Black Mountains College) to put Prometheus in editorial chains and put into a book – but the publishing house went bankrupt. Here and There I could gain literature excited people and institutions for readings, little orchastrations, that are adequat to the fireworks of this narration, with push eagle, sparklers, revealing pictures of the author, that were close to the text – it took place in Dirnfellners Literarischem Nachthimmel in Höchst, in Schaupiel Frankfurt, in the Goethe-Institut Tbilissi in Georgian Republic in Caucasus, not one hour of an eagl’s flight away from the mountains, where Prometheus offered the bird »his painful portion liver« ... Enough! Now finally here are all four of them, Andé Gide, Franz Blei, Pierre Bonnard and the 33 thesis’s, for the first time available between two book covers. Up goes the »maker of matches without permission by the authorities« – Let the eagle circle!
