The text for this volume was originally written as a contribution to a collection of bizarre experiences that retailers had with their customers;
The customer is king. He is courted, listened to, his criticism taken seriously, and almost everything is done to keep him as a buyer, up to and including taking a bow. One lives off from him. The owner of a retail store has voluntarily put himself in this position. How does he see his kings now? ... a look into the soul of the »king«, which is worth reading, wrote Hans-Joachim Otto, then Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
Dagmar Mangold was also able to catch this »view worth reading« in her former store Spielkiste & Kindermode in Bad Soden am Taunus. But after her change of sides from trader to traveler, the former experiences from behind the counter took on a whole new coloration - what initially invited a grin now developed an instructive and informative dimmension for the trade as a whole.
